May 03
So after we got back from the States I decided I had better make a start in the studio: so 1st off were Stellarsoul , rising from the ashes of Goldwing with a new singer. We did 3 songs and have just finished them - they sound great, still singing one of them which is a good sign.
Then I got a train to Cardiff in Wales, armed with an acoustic guitar I went to BBC radio Wales and did an interview with old frien Ayres and played some acoustic songs. Had a quiet evening and stayed with John Lewis from the Rimshots. Next day I spent round the town doing the normal things, getting my hair cut etc, then we headed down to the MIS club by the docks. The mini bus turned up and the Folsom Four and the Boz Boorer All Stars played to a small but v. appreciative crowd with ample support by John playing some fine electric guitar un accompanied.
Then we left cardiff, a little later than planned and Lyn drove like the devil to get us to Pembroke dock with 11 minutes to spare before the ferry departed for Ireland. We also had 2 of the Blue Moon Boys from Indanna in tow so it was tight squeeze.
We got to Ireland and drove to Kilkenny bright and early . We had an extra show booked for the Folsoms up the hill as one of the bands had pulled out, but after that we packed up and relocated at Langham's, which I was suprised to find had a swish night club out the back. After a band from LA had played we started around 2 and had the folks up and dancing. The next day we played as the Folsoms up the hill at Breatnach's, packed up, went and played a radio session where I got to play a couple of songs live with Wildfire Willie. After an aborted attempt to get some food , went and played the All Stars gig at the top of the hill, which was fun as lot of people had just arrived. Sunday we did the Folsom's afternoon show at Widow's in town next to John Clere's pub, always one of our favourite haunts. After managing to catch the Sabre Jets fine set headed up to Breatnach's for the Boz All Stars evening performanc. After staying up late to learn the Rosie Flores set we switched hotels and had a Rosie Flores rehearsal in the hotel , then went down to Paris Texas to have run through with Rosie but there was no gear there! So a lillte later than expected we did an All Stars gig , followed by a very successful set with Rosie.
The next day we were up and out by 9 as we had to catch the sea cat back to Wales from Dublin. We got home about 11pm , just making last orders in the pub! So after a day in bed the Voyeurs arrived from Dublin - a young band from Dublin who came over to do some recording, went very well, still waiting to do the final mixes. Saturday night we did a gig with the Blue Moon Boys and the All Stars in Kentish Town, got quite a few in. The next day was finishing up with the Voyeurs then high tailing it to the Fiddlers elbow where the Blue Moon Boys had played a set, to pick up the equipment and go to the Boogaloo Bar in Highgate where we did a country set as the Mountain Goats. But after we found another band by that name I think we're called "the-band-that-called-themselves-the-mountain-goats-and-after-finding-a-band- of-the-same-name-had-to-change-it". Young James was fantastic on lead til his amp broke, fortunately I had a spare in the car. Young Carwin played piano, Andy Hackett on acoustic it was loud and raucous but a lot of fun.
Monday was recovering as I had the Fatcats, a jump jive - ska - rock fusion band in the studio for a few days to cut a new song. Billie had her confirmation wed night so I had to take the evening off, but that's ready to mix in June. Sat night I had a bit of a birthday bash at Virginia Creeper's club at the Waterrats in Kings cross. Jack and the Rippers played a fine set.
Sunday and then Monday evening was spent finishing and mixing the Stellarsoul stuff, and Andy Ellison's in the studio tomorrow !
heavy going!

April 03, from L.A.
We had a pleasant flight and arrived in LA wednesday afternoon. After sorting the car out we checked in to a small hotel, and after some mexican food down on Melrose we all went to sleep at about 9, not a good thing coz we all woke up at 5. Then went to "Mel's Diner" for breakfast - old habits die hard - then we checked out of the small hotel and checked into the Roosevelt. We like the pool! I hooked up with oti and david and dave, and with Billie in tow went to the almighty Amoeba for a few hours. Hooked up with Beau and Issac, then Sam, Frank and Larry before we left. Then before heading back enjoyed a vegan boca burger at the nearby "Astro Burger" .
Hooked up with Dean at the hotel then Deano at the rehearsal place. Had a great practice, very hot, no AC. Then after went for some thai food at Toi Thai , then another early night - here I am in the internet cafe having my breakfast, first show tonight!

...............
So after a long days shopping at Amoeba in berkeley and thrift stores out and about we headed into the city for the show last night, nice intimate atmosphere and a lot of nice people showed up, the poster looked great!
Now we're up and about getting ready for the drive to Vegas, it's a long one...

------------
After the 10 hour drive to Vegas we were all tired so we had an early night. The next day I was at the Frontier Club at noon for a run through with Huelyn Duvall, after the practice we went and got ready for the show. The Folsom Four also played before Huelyn so we had a lot to do.... the gigs went well, it was Barney's [the singer of the Folsoms] birthday and he was on fine form . The Huelyn Show was really good, one of those magic shows where it all clicks, so we partied quite hard after , knowing we had a day off on thurs to recouperate.
On Friday we played the main Gold Coast stage at 8 30, an early time as we were filling in for someone who couldn't make it - dean, lloyd, lyn and roger played and we filled the hall, it was a great success! Some film crew was there making a documentary for the DVD release of the Johnny Depp film "Cry Baby" and they asked me a few questions. Ruth Brown played a great set for her 75 years. Saturday afternoon I DJ'd for a short set in the downstairs hall which was enjoyable, then we stuck around all night and saw the Rimshots and Carlos and the Banditos tear it up after Malcolm had fallen off the stage before the show, poor thing.....
Billie is doing a school project on pop art soI took her and Pearl to the Bellagio for the Warhol exhibition which was quite enjoyable - his fascination with celebrities started early as he wrote for and received a signed print of Shirley Temple " to andrew warhol " when he was 8 in the 30s. Also took in the Elvis-a-rama-museum, which was also quite interesting. Sunday we caught an impromptu set from carlos and the boys with Tom from LLoyd's band replacing Malcolm in the downstairs hall. I got up at the end and we did "Devilene ". We said our goodbyes and had an early night, ready for the LA drive Monday.
We got to LA around 2. In the evening we had a small dinner party, the hotel room was actually like an apartment so it was comfortable. Tuesday I took the kids to Universal studios, I think I enjoyed it as much as the kids, and in the evening we had a quiet pint in the Cat and Fiddle. Moz seemed in fine fettle, but it wasn't a late one as we left noon Wednesday for our flight home...
A good trip and a lot of fun!
Deano is in Ausrtralia and Japan playing with a friend of his who has a soundtrack to a film just being released.
