This show took place at a little bar called Faint by the "Fischmarkt" in Hamburg. Surrounded by piers, docks and old pubs it had the right cosy atmosphere for a very special concert. The inside of the place was painted in rusty red which went well with the candles that lit the place. When Boz got on stage the small crowd was just about to get a bit jiggy because they'd been waiting for quite a bit, but it took him about five minutes (or ten if you count the break he had to take after one string had broke with the first chord) to show them who the boss is....
I've never seen Boz so relaxed and chatty at a show. For the first time he seemed to be completely comfortable and at ease with the fact that he was the sole center of attention, without a band to back him up. Again, he played lots of Rockabilly tunes plus a bit more Morrissey, including the unreleased track "Kitt". Somewhere along the line he started acting as musicbox and played by request, thus presenting songs that he'd never played at one of his solo shows and that I couldn't possibly name. He took a lot of time out talking to people, also having dialogues with individuals he recognised in the crowd. Andy Ellison sang "Sara crazy child" and later on "Desdemona" with him. All in all, he played a good while longer than usual, just over one and a half hours and left the stage at about 11.45 pm, only to return at midnight to play someone a birthday tune which turned into a 20 minute encore.
A very special evening indeed.... Of the four Boz solo shows I've seen so far, this one was my favourite.
