So
I'm back at home being normal.....
I got a needle on the net for my record player off some guy nick sheppard on the Isle of Wight, same name as the guy out of the Cortinas from Bristol that played in the final line up of the Clash, who also was in god with Gareth Sager from the Pop Group. I digress, tentative tie i know.

So I relaxed tonight and what did I play on my turntable ??
After Raw Ramp and Hot Love by T Rex -
I played:
Jet Set Junta - Monochrome Set - guess I love the twangy - adam ant thingy
King of the Bop - Nipple erectors - Shane Macgowan's early incantation
I wanna be free by the Rings on Chiswick - produced by Martin Gordon of Sparks
Boredom and Friends of Fine by the buzzcocks - from a fully autographed copy Linder gave to me
Orphans by Teenage Jesus and the Jerks - an early thing from Lydia Lunch I heard on john peel and thought it was the Banshees, well it was 1977

Mucky Pup by Puncture, the first record out on Small Wonder Records
Semaphore Signals by Wreckless Eric, the b side of Whole Wide World, unfortunately I snapped it while cleaning it but still I played it anyhow

Mystery Dance by Elvis Costello - oops a bit new wave I know
Borstal Breakout - sham 69 a classic
the Electric Chairs - fuck off - a classic featuring Jools Holland on piano
Johnnie Allan - Promised Land - fantastic sounding record
Teenage Depression - Eddie and the Hot Rods - amphetamine fuelled r 'n' b
Perfect Day by the Saints - Australian Punk, nothing else they did sounded as good
New Rose by the damned - what can I say ?
Safety Pin stuck in my heart - Patrick Fitzgerald - I only have a memory of seeing him at Virgin in New Oxford Street performing live one afternoon and taking huge amounts of the fanzine Sniffin Glue number 10 with the free ATVv flexi Love lies limp
ATV - You bastard - the version I have now is the one that says alternative versions on it, I remember the other one being a bit more raw

So when put another Crazy Cavan track- My little teddy girl - on , the cdr went crazy and said repair so I'll have to play em all again!
and then I'll play -
GLC by Menace and blank generation / love comes in spurts by richard hell and
the voidoids

Sunday, 10 November

hi
well it's good to be home... funny all going our seperate ways at the airport, the American party going off to the transit lounge, then it was whittled down to me and Al getting a cab back. Pearl was in, Billie's only just got back. I've done a sunday lunch, veggie toad in the hole, roast potatoes, carrots, yorkshire pudding, stuffing and gravy. Caught up on the "Eastenders" omnibus edition.

The only plans I have for November is to sort my studio out and get the G4 mac thing happening, no shows for a while. Although we do have the Boz Boorer all stars at our Christmas party at the Golden Lion the Sunday before Xmas, and I've been asked to do the same sort of thing in the evening up the road at the Verge. John's Children at the Monarch on the 28th I believe, and then we play in Frankfurt 30 / 31st with the Folsom Four on the 30th and Sonny George on the 31st.

Saturday, 9 November

It's been a funny couple of days.....we arrived late thursday night, it was pouring down and we had a bit of a nightmare cab driver coz there was noone at the airport to pick us all up. Got up the next day and me and Gaz went to a record store, the guy who ran it had found me on the net and I scored a multi coloured t.rex single on the old mauve columbia label. Spent some time in the flea market record shopping, found a nice greek Vauxhall LP, then we had to go to soundcheck - could we get a cab ? I think the cab drivers here run the country! Then we tried to get the metro but it was getting late, finally got a cab. Soundcheck was cool but there was a very hollow sound in the hall, fortunately this disappeared when we played. Munch gave me a set list that was in greek which I shall post up on the site soon, it was funny. Today we got up late and went by the Acropolis to film for the documentary but the heavens opened and that was that. So the final show was fun, very loud and enthusiastic crowd and then we just got together in the bar up the 10th floor overlooking the Acropolis for a goodbye drink. Everyone's exchanging numbers and saying their goodbyes, we've got a 6am call to fly back to London, promised the kids I'll make em a sunday lunch, Lyn's in Austin Texas on holiday so I'm bang right back to reality!

Tuesday, 5 November

So on the day off we rented a car, Dean and I saw the sights of Rochdale... saw a clothing shop called Butterworth's, saw a girder thing in the road built by Butterworth, found a small housing estate called Butterworth Park and found an old building called Butterworth Hall, as well as the road where he lived and his school. That night we drove to Sheffield and had a curry with Dave and Jane - Dave was in The Blue Devils and Jane makes her own line of clothing called Geronimo - fantastic vintage styled clothes. Weird curry house run by a woman who told you what to order.

Any way - drove back to Manchester afterwards, the next day spent a few hours record hunting, found the Pony Club CD, as well as a Bright Eyes promo. He's a guy from Whichita that a friend put me onto when I was in El Paso. Also found a single by the Saints - This Perfect Day and a 1999 album and a great big book called Punk, by Chris Sullivan. Kevin was over from Dublin for the football in Liverpool and he made it to Blackburn for the show, after which we drove back to Manchester again.

On Sunday we left for Glasgow after a hearty breakfast of egg on toast up the cafe, briefly saying hello to Matt and Brett from Suede in the hotel foyer. Barrowlands has always been a top show for us and Sunday was no exception, after the show me and Gaz drove back to London with Charlie, not a bad journey! Got back at 6:30, did the school runs and collapsed back to bed. Had a quiet night in last night, well it was going to be until Deano turned up, then Kev, Miriam had arrived in the afternoon, Andy Ellison, me and Lyn, then Robert Sharpe arrived , He's been doing a lot of computer stuff for Bryan Adams and apparently he's having a rockabilly styled birthday party tonight. Robert borrowed some clothes, we'll try and make it down there
after the Brixton show, but it'll be a bit of a mad dash. Day off tomorrow, then over to Athens for the last 2 shows .

Friday, 1 November

So - painless train journey up to Birmingham, had a good soundcheck and the show was really good, one of the best audiences so far. We were going to leave after the show but at the last minute we stayed in Brum, and yesterday drove to bradford. No time for a soundcheck but it was a good sound, very good Halloween atmosphere. Munch my guitar tech had a mask on and the gong was decorated like a pumpkin, very lively audience, rather like a production line of bodies coming towards the stage. I think Reg managed to dissuade the 2 who nearly jumped off the balcony. After the show Al scared the wits out of anyone who strayed or could be lured into the dressing room by jumping out from behind a curtain, Colin the tour manager nearly needing heart surgery was the best. There's a day off today! Going to hire a car and drive to sunny Rochdale so Dean can see his hometown, he hasn't been there since he was 10.

Wednesday, 30 October

So .............after an enjoyable show in Paris, although the on stage sound was a bit weird for me - mind you my ears are still acting up - I had a relatively early night and a 6.30 am call to go to the station for the Eurostar home. If I have a day off in England, why not spend it at home with the family? So when I get to the station, it's chaos! Couldn't get a ticket issued to me, the stairs up to the Eurostar check in were taped up, and there's no trains until further notice. The storms had caused some damage. I couldn't get the phone to work so I phoned Lyn, got her out of bed and asked her to help me out while I get the Metro back to the hotel. Got Colin out of bed, he managed to get me on the next flight out of Charles de Gaulle, so then I had a mad dash in a cab to the airport , which itself was in chaos due to the amount of people trying to get flights. But I eventually got on the plane and ended up getting back home at a reasonable time.

Charlie and Chris came round last night , cooked up a big curry, a vegetable korma and a sag dhall kind of thing with spinach and lentils, a few popadoms and a rake of beers courtesy of Miriam, Corinna and Frank. They brought them up for me while we were in Copenhagen, I then had them driven back to England, they travelled well! Then I ran over to my Mum's with Kev, she was a bit worried about the amount of squirrels in her loft. We found a nest but all signs of any squirrels had gone.

So got up this morning, took Pearl to school, had a haircut and a shave, and now I'm going to pack and leave for Birmingham.

Sunday, 27 October

hi
so we just finished Lyon. We had quite a long soundcheck and I think it was well worth it, we managed to put "Hand in Glove" in the set which was nice.

I knew I remebered the Transbordeur, I played there in the late 80s. The band I managed, Howlin Wilf and the Veejjays, headlined and a band I play in, The Deltas, were support. It was a night of much merriment, I remember Wilf being pushed on stage naked during our set, so me, not to be out done was pushed naked on a drum flight case, only I plugged the guitar in and continued to play. Then Wilf found some ketchup and it got quite nasty. Then the next day, through a couple of discrepances we missed the flight home, which resulted in us getting the train to Paris to get the first plane out. The promoter was helping us get our equipment onto the train but the doors shut, next stop Paris - he was not a happy bunny! Especially after getting there, there was no train home so he had to take the postal train, 10 hours instead of 2, and he got fined each way for not having a ticket. But we all managed to get home safely, even if it did cost me a lot of money. It seems like yesterday!

So a short train journey tomorrow which'll bring back memories!
Then a return to Paris, then a day at home !

Friday, 25 October

So the gig in Copenhagen was fun - quite a small show, but not as small as the next one in Malmo. Fortunately, it was just over the bridge so there wasn't much travelling and it only held 750 people. Caught the train to Stockholm this morning, played in a big hockey arena, nearly 5000 people. Had to have the doctor out again because I had some shooting pains on the train. He said it might take 2 more months to clear up.

Anyhow, flying to Lyon tomorrow, up bright and early

Tuesday, 22 October

hi - I'm here now, 30 hour flight? No problem!
Just had a few drinks with a nice couple in the mouse and elephant, Xenia and Paul. Then Munch and Phil turned up - that Elephant beer's strong stuff, fells like I've never been away!

According to Beau, Scott Walker did a song called "copenhagen"; it encaptures the mood so well.... It's a great place

COPENHAGEN
(Engel)

Hope for me, I hope for you,
We're snowdrops falling through the night.

We'll melt away before we land,
Two teardrops for somebody's hand.

Follow me into just one more Spring.

Copenhagen, you're the end,
Gone and made me a child again.
Warmed my feet beneath cold sheets,
Dyed my hair with your sunny streets.

Children aren't afraid to love
And laugh when life amuses them.

And our love is an antique song
For children's carousels

Sunday, 20 October

g'day mate,
I can't seem to get on line at the hotel so I'm at an internet cafe on Bondi Beach. Weather's fab, bought Billie a hooded sweatshirt. Phil's on the beach, soaking up some rays.

I've finished my antibiotics, so I'm back in the land of the drinking. Had a good flight here, ears were not giving me too much jip. Looking forward to tonight - last night was fun, it was
actually a tennis stadium. Got to play a digeridoo on stage at the end of "Meat is murder", another new instrument, although I haven't got the hang of the continuous breathing. It was all good apart from a stray capo being placed on my guitar at the wrong time, but you can't have everything!

Looking forward to Copenhagen, but not the 3 flights!

Saturday, 19 October

hi
Just waiting to go to the Livid Festival here in Melbourne.....
After the show in Adelaide, which was fine apart from a funny sound which I don't think was entirely down to my ears, I had an early night. Got up in the morning and made breakfast for the band in my room: cereal, then scrambled eggs and toast, tea/coffee - it was nice. Then I left for the lonely drive to Melbourne, but I quite enjoyed the tranquility of solitude. I decided to take the scenic route which is decidedly longer but quite enjoyable, until I got arrested for speeding.... It carries a month's ban but luckily that doesn't start for 28 days. That killed my speed ardour so I got into town late and missed the filming they had planned, so they did it without me. Had the doc out again to see if it's safe for me to fly tomorrow, he said sure as it's a short trip , if I suffer any pain I have a referal note to have a small incision made to let the pressure out of my ear. I also found out that Billie had to go the hospital a couple of days ago, they diagnosed Reynard's syndrome and she's not allowed to get cold, I feel a long way away.

So I found a nice shirt but it needs cufflinks, luckily Moz came to the rescue. Just met up with Chris Dickie, who engineered on "Vauxhall" and I 'll meet up after the show. Heard a Ronnie Dawson song on a jeep ad a couple of days ago, not him singing but a version of Action Packed, one of his obscure 45s from the 50s and just heard Edwin Collins on another ad.

I am enjoying the new Nick Hornby novel "Being Good", can't put it down. We have an early start in the morning to go to Sydney for the last Livid festival, then it's 3 flights monday to get to Copenhagen. I hope my ears make it!
cheers

Tuesday, 15 October

hi, hope all's well
woke up early so I thoght I'd update....

From memory the last entry was Perth - we had an easy flight to Brisbane where we played the Livid Festival. I went down early and caught the Oasis boys, they had a good 'un finished with a storming version of "My Generation". Our show was fun, the sound was a bit weird but I do have water trapped in my ear and hearing's up the swanee. The Oasis boys were watching from the stage and they said afterwards they all really enjoyed it. Ended up in a nightclub called Zoo where I hooked up with Cliff Ward again.

Got up early and got a flight to Sydney, my brother met me, had some food and a good show in a nice old theatre. Next day up early and a flight to Melbourne where I found a couple of cd shops, doing laundry this morning before soundcheck ........day off tomorow.

Apparently Moz is doing something for PETA today about the elephant appeal, read it in the paper

cheers
boz

....later that day:

Just finished the gig in Melbourne - I think the best so far, great crowd and good sound.

I hooked up with Sally and Liza yesterday, first met them when I set up NV records with Barney no-hit, they worked at caroline distributors, now they work for Shock Records. Sally put me on to her mate Merryn who does shiatsu massage. So I took a cab ride up there this afternoon, then I got a tram back to town and the hotel for soundcheck, but this ear complaint I have was really getting me down.

After soundcheck Charlie arranged for a doctor who gave me Decongestant for my sinus, Penicylin for my chest infection and a puffer to help shift the stuff that's in there. He also said that I can't fly for the next few days so I have to drive to Adelaide. I'll probably leave tomorrow and split the journey half way. If it's not clear on Monday I'll have to have a specialist make a hole in my ear to get rid of the pressure or else my ear could burst!

So I'm just about to dose myself up, breathe in steam over the kettle and then an early night, won't do me any harm!

cheers

Hi,

weather here's not as good as they promised, not bad though.....
Met up with an old mate, Cliff Ward, yesterday, he was one of our rockabilly gang, hadn't seen him for 21 years. We jumped in a cab, went to place called "Redcliff" where they had a Greasefest. Met up with Sonny George and of course we got up and played, then I did "Rockabilly Guy" with Deke Dickerson, then a cab home very late. Off in 15 minutes to see Oasis, makes a change from last time I saw them at Wembley, now I can watch from the side of the stage. Then we play later, then an aftershow, but we have an early start in the morning - off to sydney and there a can hook up with my brother, haven't seen him in a while......

Friday, 11 October

hi
no didn't forget the lap top, just haven't gotten around to signing on!
Well, we had a good trip home from Dublin but I felt really ill by the time I got home. I spent 26 hours in bed and just recharged the batteries.

Left home at 4am Monday, had a flight to Frankfurt, then Singapore, then Perth, got here about 4 pm Wednesday. It's a nice place, had a look round and a few beers on Wednesday, slept kind of weird though. Did soundcheck around 4 30, they had some problems at the venue, weird place, like an 80's tiered disco. Had quite a few in, more quiet than usual - we should've played here 10 years ago so I suppose they were astonished we made it.

Got to check out in 2 minutes, have a flight to Brisbane. Sonny George is playing the Grease Fest, wonder if we can hook up. Spoke to an old mate Cliff yesterday, haven't seen him for 20 years , might hook up tonight. He was one of our old gang with the Polecats til his folks emigrated 20 years ago. Also hooking up with my big brother friday

that's all for now

Wednesday, 2 October

Hi,

just got to Dublin, had a wild time in Paris! Good show but lots of cameras everywhere getting in the way!

Nice to see the Sack boys again - met up with Andy from John's Children after the show and had a meal across the road from the hotel, then we got up and flew to Dublin.

Had an Italian last night, then a pint and then we went to the Spy Club, really nice place... Sean Foy was supposed to playing, I left before he played though. I thought the traffic in Paris was bad til i got here, it's mental! But when we got back from the soundcheck, Lyn was outside the hotel with Billie, Pearl, Larry, Kev, Ginge and Jeanette!

Got my hair cut today, Kev o'Kelly showed me a great barber shop near the o'connell bridge in the basement . Looked like it hadn't changed for 70 years.

So 2 mad nights in Dublin, looking forward to them!

Thursday, 26 September

Boz on Denmark (inspired by an email sent to him from a fan....):

I like Copenhagen a lot - I have very strong ties there.

In the war my dad was a navigator with his pilot, Peter Brett. They flew in a Beaufighter, a low flying bomber, and they would bomb supply shipping off the coast of Scandinavia. I remember him saying he did a lot of his training in Canada. Returning from one of their bombing raids in May 1945, they had one of their engines shot out by anti aircraft guns, they landed in the North Sea and floated in a dingy which sprung a few leaks and all their emergency rations were lost. After 5 days they were starving and close to death in a dingy that was about to sink. Then they were seen and saved by a Danish man called Christian Peterson in a fishing trawler and taken to Esbjerg. It was one of the last sorties of the war because when they were picked up the war was over. It took him a while in hospital before he came home and he always wore a half caliper on his leg which sometimes pained him. They did want to amputate it in 1945 but he got another 54 years use out of it.

Anyway when my older brother was born in 1957 they called him Christian Peter. As a result we holidayed a lot in Denmark - I remember when old Mrs Peterson was alive, and Sven the old man's brother used to run a sweet shop [always great when you're a kid! ] One year we took a tour of the Tuborg brewery in Copenhagen. Now I go in search of Elephant beer on draught, and last time they had some jul ol - Xmas ale that was the equivalent of Young's Winter Warmer, a drink they only sell here in half-pints in winter.

In 1979 I played in an orchestra in the town hall there, and also in Aarhus. I love the D'Angleterre hotel there, last time we were there it was Billie Rose's birthday and she flew over as a surprise. She had no idea, but twigged at the airport , Lyn took her straight from school. I think Deb took her over to Tivoli Gardens [ it's like a theme park] for the morning. It was winter though so it could have been closed. I played in a place called Daddy's Dance Hall back in the Polecat days in 1981, and have done 2 Moz shows there.

Well that's me done reminiscing...

cheers

Tuesday, 24 September

The gig on Saturday was a bit mad, ended up leaving a guitar in the road, which Stropper found thankfully! Ended up tying one on back here til the early hours. Bit of a struggle to get up and make rehearsals for the Kirsty tribute, but made it OK. Also popped into the Golden Lion after to see James Hunter and reaquaint myself with all the folks I haven't seen since June. The beard went down well but people didn't recognise me at first!

Got down to the festival Hall in the afternoon for soundcheck but they were running a bit behind so it took a while to get everything sorted but it was a great evening. It went so fast, but everyone performed great. Saw a few faces I haven't seen for a while. Phil Jupitus was the compere, he recommended the strawberry scones in hospitality but there was none left, I suspect he ate em all. Me and Roddy Frame had to hide the second plate. I met a great violinist from Cuba called Omar Puente. Brian Kennedy sung like an angel, especially on the song "Angel". I don't think I've seen him since I played the double-bass in a Sweetmouth video 12 years ago. Johnny Marr was bang on form and we chewed the fat for a while. Mark Nevin was also there in a great hat, David Gray flew over from Boston. I lent him a microphone once many years ago and he remembered picking it up. Good to see Spider and Gem from the Pogues, we shared a dressing room. Evan Dando looked great in his Dickies T-shirt, a band once managed by John Hewlitt from John's Children, a band Marc Bolan was in in the 60s. I played clarinet on the song "Bad " with Mary Coughlan, a fiesty Irish redhead, I thought Lyn would get on well with her but at the end of the show we couldn't hang about at the aftershow, we have a German exchange student and she was at the show "Fame" and we had to pick her up. But I did get to say hi to Kirsty's kids, Jamie and Louie, it's been a while since I had seen them. I also played acoustic on "Cowboy" sung by Brian Kennedy, and then I played lead guitar on the last song of the night "Chipshop" with the enigmatic vocals of Tracey Ullman. While I was in the Green Room I read in the Independant about the death of Joan Littlewood, a very charismatic member of the British theatre in the 50s and 60s. I met her one night at Kirsty's and I didn't know til yesterday that she married Kirsty's dad at one time and did a lot of work with Lionel Bart , another person I had met at one of Kirsty's gatherings, [we still have a strange
memory of Lyn rubbing Wasp-eze on his head]

Anyhow this all seems a bit rambly, I'm sure there'll be revues in the press It was a good night, congrats to everyone who played, especially Pete Glennister, Dave Ruffy and James Knight. I'm sure it was emotionally draining as well mentally and physically. It was a great night and I am very pleased to have been a part of it. It's certainly stirred up a lot of good memories of a friend who's sorely missed........

Saturday, 21 Sept

So, diary wise it's been a very hectic couple of days. Had a very early start Tuesday, soundcheck was fine at the Albert Hall - It's an amazing building looking up into the gods from the stage. The first gig was hard work for me as I continued to break strings and guitar pedals, using a new amplifier as the night progressed. But it didn't spoil the proceedings at all and a great time was had. My mum said she quite enjoyed the opening act The Thrills, but she wont be making the trip out to Dublin to see them again.

The second night was immensely enjoyable.... I managed to iron out nearly all of the gremlins in the system, and the aftershow was very well attended. Nice to meet up with Bernard Butler, Harry Hill, Woodie Taylor, Jo Slee, and tons of people.

After quite a late night we had a early call to turn up at the BBC studios in Maida Vale. It was studio 3, the last studio Bing Crosby ever recorded in [there's a plaque on the wall!] It's quite large not unlike studio 2 at Abbey Road. We set up the equipment and recorded 3 songs, and Moz did a fantastically amusing interview. It's scheduled for the 3rd of October at midnight I believe. At the end of the day everyone left feeling exhausted, I stayed for the final mixing before heading home.

Yesterday Alain and myself did an interview for Mojo Magazine, an interesting angle that we haven't done before, concentrating on our songwriting and all that comes with that side of things. I then walked up to a nearby rehearsal studio where they were holding rehearsals for the Kirsty MacColl tribute gig, I ran through the songs I will be performing and in the evening retired to the local hostelry for a few glasses of medicinal compound [in this case extra cold Guinness}

I can't believe how tired I am but I still woke up at 4.30 this morning (about an hour and a half ago). I think I'll shoot up to the all-night Tescos up the road and get the weekly groceries while it's quiet.

It's Debbie's dad Frank Holmes' 60 th birthday bash tonight [saturday]. Boz and friends are going to making a rare appearance at the Narrowboat pub in Islington. it's a great pub right on the canal behind the Angel station. I also think Billie rose is going to make her stage debut drumming in her first band . Can't wait!

No rest for the wicked
cheers

Note from the webmaster: "Due to my own trip to the London shows, the following two diary entries come with a delay - they were written on the dates stated!"

Tuesday, 17 September

hi y'll

so it's tuesday morning, it was a mad day Sunday with going on early, trying to get a soundcheck , packing everything up, mad dash to the airport, 3 and a half hour stop over in Washington. Got home about 11.30 last night, too late to attend the 25th anniversary bash in memory of Marc Bolan's death.

So I got up this morning, did the 2 school runs and pack lunches, went to the store got some bits, put my washing on, went to the newsagent , didn't realise I had 3 issues of record collector magazine sitting there since I've been away so long. The house looks different, there's a brand new stair-carpet, even when I turned on the computer there's a new keyboard [about time ] a new mouse and the arm rest thingy Tim Polecat gave me 10 weeks ago. Also there's 7 guitars sitting on the spare bed, not a good sign, a reminder that my studio was flooded while I was away. I'll have to go over in a minute and survey the damage, hope the banjo's OK , I need it tonight.

Hope my Mum enjoys it, she saw me once in 1979 at a Polecat's show and once at Wembley on the David Bowie tour, which by all accounts was very good but a little too loud. I'll do the show in memory of my Dad who passed away 3 years ago today. Please raise your glasses - the toast is: "absent friends"!

Sunday, 15 September

Hi

so I woke up on the my last day here. It'll be an early show today, we have to get to the airport tonight. We have a short stop over on the way but it was the only way of getting back in time. I wonder if Lyn'll bring the kids to the airport? [please!]

Didn't sleep well on the bus last night. Tom the driver thought there'd been an earthquake because the roads were so bad. We got to San Diego about 7.30 am and of course I couldn't sleep when I got into the room. Last night was fun because we performed a brand new song " Irish Blood, English Heart" which went well. But the biggest surprise for me was when I was sitting in catering having dinner and I recognised an old friend Chucho, he was Kirsty MacColl's bass player for the last couple of years of her life and I had met him on a number of occasions. Turns out he's been playing bass for Jaguares for a year or so. It's such a small world.

Charlie told me a good tale yesterday: when we were in LA after the Craig Kilbourn show, he was in the hotel bar having a beer but near the street so he could spoke, when a vagrant guy stood outside and started singing a song. Charlie thought he needed some accompaniment so he stood next to him and was clicking his fingers. When the security moved the guy on, they thought that Charlie was also living on the street and it took him quite a while before they let him back in.

Keep a little Marc in your hearts tomorrow, Monday will be the 25th anniversary of Marc Bolan's death. He was the first geezer who ever inpired a desire in me to pick up a guitar. Special mention for Mel who gave me a phonecard, very practial present, it has been used well and is still going strong! thanks

cheers

Saturday, 14 September

Hi

so we watched the Craig Kilbourne show and I think it came across really well. It was a nice easy day and apart from the food being 2 hours late, very enjoyable. I must admit I did sink a few ales afterwards. Yesterday the bus was late picking us up at the hotel and then that meant that we hit all the rush hour traffic, resulting in the police closing the on coming lane and getting us to drive down it the wrong way, which meant we arrived at the venue 2 minutes before show time. There was a good crowd in and they made a lot of noise, due to my own neglect the crowd was 2 people short and I apologise to Ati for my slip up.

So after the show we had a police escort to the freeway and settled down to watch the 2nd night of the Craig Kilbourne show, and were equally pleased.

Grabbed a few hors kip before we arrived at the hotel . So it's a quick shower and a last visit to Amoeba, haven't been to the Berkley store since July.

After the show tonight we head back down to San Diego then it's a mad dash back to London. I have enjoyed my time here, but I'm looking forward to getting back

cheers

Wednesday, 11 September

hi
it's the morning of the 11th - just off to Barney's Beanery for brunch. Last 2 shows were fun, we didn't soundcheck either one so it's always a little nerve wrecking. In Santa Rosa someone managed to jump on stage and knock my guitar out of tune, so I couldn't play the end of the encore, but it didn't really matter.

Fresno wasn't as wild as the last time we played there, apparently the barricade came down last visit. We were thinking of doing a new song for the encore but the crowd really wanted a singalong. Got a bit hairy at the end but it was fun.

So Craig Kilborne tomorrow, watched it last night , mmmmmmmm - interesting.

Got to go to the dentist in SF, I have 2 cracks in one of my back teeth and it needs to be crowned, that's why I was getting that pain.

Lyn's diary

Hey ya'll it's Lyn Boorer here! I'm adding a little entry to my husband's tour diary.
This is my version of events......................................!

I arrived on Thursday 29th August at around 3.20pm into Denver airport just as 3 Tornados hit town... being from Camden in London we don't really see that many Tornados so I was pretty freaked out, all alone on the back seat of a British Airways 777. I cranked my sony disc man up to max & stuck my head into 'All the pretty horses' (the book I had been reading during the flight). I felt like Dorothy expecting the old hag on the bicycle to come peddling  by the window with Toto strapped in the basket, Aghhhhhhhhh!!

After half an hour the pilot announced that he'd had enough of being knocked about by this storm and Denver airport were refusing any landing, so we were off to CO Springs. This was good cause that is were Boz, Moz & the boys were playin' that night, I was also very pleased to be on solid ground. When we landed my euphoria at being in CO Springs was to be diminished rather abruptly as I learned that this particular airport doesn't do international flights & has no custom clearance. Sat on the tarmac.................. So two and a half hours later I was on my way back to Denver, great!! The storm had cleared, Boz had arranged for me to be picked up - thanks Todd (the driver) who waited for nearly 4 hours for me.

And off we go to, guess where, yeah you got it, CO Springs.............. I missed the show, had been travelling for nearly 24 hours, so went straight to bed. I'm sound a sleep in the hotel when at around midnight I'm awakened and I'm scared to see this hairy man looking down at me, oh my god, then I realise its not a dream its Boz with the beard....! I got used to it & he has got it under control to the point where it kinda suits him.......... We like it now!!!!!!!!!

So next morning up and down to the pool. Boz never sits in the sun & yes you know what I'm about to say..... He is totally burnt. That night at Denver his legs, chest & tummy were bright orange to the point that he had to take some medication before he went on stage to take his temperature down, sorry but I'm trying not to laugh......poor Boz!!

Oh yes I am now back in Denver again! Anyway this was my first show and it was a biggish venue. I really enjoyed the show, the boys seemed relaxed and mature, the banjo was a suprise and fitted in really well. We met Ron & Cindy who I had hung out with in Green Bay at the Rockin 50's fest in July, so that was cool.

After the gig it was back on the bus and off to Santa Fe, NM. I think it was around 6 am when we arrived, I was half asleep & just followed everyone else to the rooms. Santa Fe was a cool town, Boz & I had lunch, walked around & did some shopping for bits for the kids. The gig was out doors at Paolo Soleri Amphitheatre & the weather was looking pretty rough. It was spitting rain for a while before the show, and the forecast was for a storm, everyone was getting a little concerned. I on the other hand was completely confident that no way was it gonna rain, young Deano expressed his concern and I reassured him... I have that thing when I know what the weather is up to, don't ask how, I just know it. The gig was great I really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere, Moz had a great rapour with the crowd it was brilliant!

Once again we were off on the bus this time to El Paso in Texas.....................

.....................to be continued.....................................

Sunday, 8 September

hi
so the first vegas show went quite well I thought, I was a little uncharacteristicly nervous, probably due to so many friends of ours making the trip to Vegas. Good to see 'em, haven't seen them for ages.

There were some nice banners in the crowd, the winner has to be "Go On, Make My Gary Day"! A few brave ones tried but noone actually made it onto the stage.

Tried to have a little drink after the show but it was somewhat of a non-event due to some uninvited guests, c'est la vie......

So Lyn goes home tomorrow, the time's just flown by, I think she's had a good time. Long trip on the bus tonight to San Francisco and I believe I have a dental appointment tomorrow, [ do you really want to know that!]

Hi
got to El Paso and the lap top was broken again! Me and Lyn just managed to fix it today, Thursday 5th. Had a really long trip to Santa Barbara from El Paso, 22 hours of bus arghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While in El Paso after a great Italian dinner which was attended by full band and some crew, Lyn,Charlie Ed & myself went down to Juarez in Mexico. We had a wild night, went to a few bars and had a lotta fun, got back through the border with no problems. 2 great gigs in El Paso rammed with people.

Nice here in Santa Barb, was raining earlier but hopefully it'll hold out as it is an open air gig tonight. We had a lovely walk along the Pacific Ocean this morning even though we got a bit wet.I have go do sound check..................

I saw her outside the gig on Tuesday 3rd Aug in El Paso, she asked me to take a picture by her Carmen Ghia car & we went for a ride, she let me drive her motor around the block a couple of times, thanks again and thanks to all the fans who make it fun to hang around outside the gigs...Cheers Gaz..........

Saturday, 31 August

hi
so it's Sat night after the Santa Fe show and we're getting it together for the trip to El Paso, day off tomorow! First open air show we've done on this tour, made a nice change.

Last night in Denver was cool, Lyn's first show, she enjoyed it. Hung out with Ron, Cindy and young Tim, they run a vintage retro shop on Broadway, number 8 I think.

Had a long trip to Santa Fe, went into town today and had a look round - nice town, noticed they have the oldest house and church in the States....

Listening to the Blue Moon boys cd "Sticks and Stones", sounds well.

Add Nick Hornby to the list of authors, I just remembered I enjoyed all 3 of his novels - and the bloke who wrote "The Wrong Boy", Willy Russel.

Friday, 30 August

Well I got up early and had my hair cut near the venue yesterday, the guy had a really shakey hand and I panicked when he got the cut throat out! When I left I noticed that I managed to get Morrissey's name spelled right on the board outside the gig. There was a problem with the PA so we had to wait at soundcheck while a new one was put in, but went outside and met some of people.

Lyn flew in, but she had major problems with the weather. They couldn't land in Denver and put down in Colorado Springs, but unfortunately they don't do International arrivals , so she had to wait for 2 1/2 hours on the tarmac, fly to Denver, then get a ride to Colorado Springs, what a nightmare. I'll try and persuade her to do a diary entry after the show in Denver tonight.

The show eventually was a good one and we changed some of the songs around.

hi
just woke up and caught a glimps of Johnny Cash on the news........hope he's OK...

Well it was a good show last night, not much room up there but it was ....cosy. The gong stand wouldn't fit on the stage so it was suspended from the lighting truss, you could hear it shake when young Dean hit the gong.

Made last call at the Port of Call bar after the show, played a few games of pinball - it was a playboy pinball machine and Ed must get a special mention for recognising the girls as being from 1993! That December was playmate of the year and October's boyfriend is behind bars for fraud. We would have got there earlier but although this is a very nice hotel, they're the slowest creatures I've seen since studying Sloths in high school.

So one more show here in Salt Lake, then overnight to Colorado Springs. Lyn's flying out , looking forward to seeing her Thursday. Haven't had my hair cut since I left England in June so maybe I'll hunt down a barber today....

this is Dean and I just wanted to say hello to everyone. We are just about to play the first of the two Salt Lake shows, its gonna be great!!!!!!!!!!!
This as you all know is my first Morrissey tour and I'm having a blast!!!!!!

I live in Los Angeles, but I'm from Rochdale England. I moved to the U.S when I was ten years old and have lived here ever since. I've been playing drums since I was twelve. I've played with many artists over the years, but I must say this is the the most fun I've had in years. All the boys in the band have been great and they have welcomed me with open arms.

Boz looks great with his facial hair, its good to have two in the band.
Well, we're off to play.

hi
so the gig in Portland was a lot of fun, maybe the best yet! My only sore point was the horrible looking bloke who strolled across the stage in "November" as if he owned the place ......... come to think of it he probably did.

Then straight on the bus for the 13 hour drive to Salt Lake City, quite uneventful, stopped at a truck stop and bought some "Tut" pronounced like "foot", that is any thing in a truck stop that looks great til you get on the bus and wonder why you bought it - ie a new case for my computer, a new bag, etc ... got a phone card and spoke to all 3 Boorer girls which was nice, then couldn't sleep on the bus and watched some mind numbing Indiana jones film and that still didn't work. Especially all the kids being reunited with their parents at the end reminded me I've still got a while til I see mine...

Strolled down to the Zephyr Club just now. That's a small place, it's gonna be a wild one. Did my laundry, now it's out to find a bar but the weird thing here is, to get round the licensing/ smoking law they're all "members only" bars. But we got the concierge here at the hotel on the case and I think he's found us a particularly sawdusty place just down the road, so off we go....!

Any suggestions for any more top 5s?

Hi
just got here to the gig in Eugene. Things were a bit messed up so we had to go back to the hotel in Seattle, then leave today on the tour bus. Someone ran into it outside the hotel and ripped off the exhaust so that took ages... then the freeway was closed so we went for ages at a snail's pace. But we're here now, venue looks great, town's very quiet, looking forward to it
cheers bb

P.S. (added later):

Just got to portland - quite easy it's 1: 30 am.
Long soundcheck tomorrow! Then 13 hour drive to Salt Lake City.

Dave gave me his first novel last night, "To Major Tom", a novel but based as letters written to Bowie. Kept me up half the night.... So this afternoon picked up my washing, met Dave and Amy, went shopping, bought ............wait for it: Elastica and Nick Drake.

Enjoyed Rialto, The Creation and BRMC today courtesy of Dave Nice. KMFDM's version of "Boots were made for walkin" never really cut it, neither did Daft Punk. Yet to hear Idlewild , the best of alex chilton [ should be good, I know most of it] and Steve Took, Byrds play Dylan, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, a Japanese band [named after mishearing the Damned's album "Machine Gun Ettiquette [apparently]].

Pleasant evening in the Italian restaurant, ready to rock tomorrow - it's when the tour starts in earnest { in earnest? I thought we were playing in Seattle }

Well here we are back in States......The shows in Japan went well, personally, Tokyo was more raucous and better sounding to me than Osaka but both very enjoyable. Enjoyed a day off, the flight back was good for me. I slept finally after 4 days of waking up at 6 am, some people didn't enjoy the flight quite so much......

But checked out a few shops yesterday, played pool with Charlie for ages and then had a curry, back to the hotel then straight out again to the "Elephant and Castle", and more Guinness.

Today my English friend author / journalist Dave Thompson and his misses Amy are coming by, going up to the university to check out the record stores and discuss the weather.

hi

So we've finished the 1st Japan show, there was a good crowd in, very polite, waited for the last chord to fade out before they applaused. I enjoyed "Meat is Murder" and "There is a Light", "Late Night Maudlin Street" and "Speedway" tonight.

Met Gwen from No Doubt, got an autograph for Billie Rose, she's a big fan, she'll be knocked out .

Saw some of the Banshee's set. Nice to hear "Pure", off the Scream album. Never heard it live before, then "Jigsaw feeling" and "Metal postcard". I saw them do those in 77 ah, the memories came flooding back.

So we have a 8 30 call for our trip to Tokyo, no rest for the wicked. Might go to the American Village area for a few beers tonight.

hi
sorry it's been very hectic! After Yuma we drove to LA, got there at 6 am and had a big problem checking in. Had a day off yesterday, drove up to Hollywood and visited the fantastic guys at "Black market" on la Cienega, the place we got our gong. Chris and the guys really looked after us. Then we headed out to "The Cat and Fiddle" for some lunch, afterwards me and Gary hit Amoeba Records and Alain and Charlie went off shopping, but they managed to get towed away so they were relly late picking us up.

Spent a nice evening at the bar at the airport, had a rude awakening at 7.30 coz we had an early flight to Japan, everything went well until we were waiting to take off and they spun us some yarn about SF being closed due to adverse weather conditions. We stayed on the tarmac for about 3 hours so that's why we missed our flight to Japan. We had an unexpected stop in San Francisco with no luggage for the night, but not to waste an opportunity, Beau sped down , picked me up and within an hour I was perusing the racks in Amoeba on Haight. After a pleasant Italian meal in North Beach he dropped me off and the next day we had the early start for the trip to Japan. The flight was OK but because of the missed flight , they didn't have our special meal requests and then they lost a couple of bags so that had to sorted out. We couldn't fly straight to Osaka so we had to wait 3 hours for a connect flight in Tokyo airport.

But, here we are now, it's been a bit of a marathon.

hi,

So we did the first show... soundcheck was really good but in the second song some doughnut got on the stage, knocked my amp flying and broke a tube in it so it didn't work. He knocked the whole bass rig over onto Gary's back and broke the DI lead for the banjo so that didn't work anymore either. I was not impressed, hope he was pleased with his efforts. so, i s'pose i ought to get the diary thing running
Not much to report yet, there's been some trouble sorting the visas , always takes an explicably long time, and as a result some of the shows have had to be rescheduled. I'm out in Whittier , staying at Larry's which is very pleasant, working on the set and occasionally popping into hollywood for meetings and shopping .I've managed to pick up a wide range of music since

I've been here, from the first Sham 69 album, to The Sixths, The Bees album, [for that one track A Minha Menina], some North-West Rockers rockabilly stuff on Norton, The Will To Live by Ben Harper, [to check out the talents of new-boy drummer Dean], The Kirsty MacColl radio sessions album, Super Furry Animals, and lots of other stuff, which I play in the car while I'm out driving. I got to play some tracks when I DJ'd a short set at Larry's club - The Underground - Friday nights at The Tempest Club on Santa Monica. I was thinking of my fave albums of all time today, the one's I know pretty much inside out. They are [I think]

Electric Warrior - T.Rex
Ooh La La - The Faces
